Carsten Sievers ‘and’

The seemingly minimalistic constructivist sculptures, reliefs and works on paper by Carsten Sievers (born 1969 in Frankfurt am Main, lives and works in Berlin) focus on the question concerning the relationship of the object to itself. His works on display in the exhibitions are conceptual test assemblies in which a greatly reduced arsenal of formal artistic vocabulary is subject to similarly simple as well as strict manipulations. Twisting, splitting, folding or reflecting are among the practices that are subject to simple artistic positings – for example geometrical lines, simple material sculptures or the like. These simple positings result in complex pattern formations that in end can even undergo the transformation from the plane to space, from the drawing to sculpture and from the object to installation.
