Hans Reffert. Painting and Drawing

20/06 - 06/09/2026

Hans Reffert (1946-2016) was one of the founding figures of local rock music. As a musician, he began playing in 1960, initially alongside Siggi Schwab, and later with various bands, of which the best known was Guru Guru. His artistic output cannot, however, be reduced to music alone. Hans Reffert worked across multiple disciplines and was active, among other things, as a visual artist. Over more than fifty years, he created an extensive and wide-ranging oeuvre encompassing painting, drawing, printmaking, watercolour, and sculpture. To mark the tenth anniversary of his death, the Rudolf-Scharpf-Gallery is presenting the artist with a retrospective exhibition that places particular focus on his work as a draughtsman an painter. Inspired by comics, science fiction, the works of Adolf Wölfli, and the illustrations of Alfred Kubin, Reffert conjured fantastical worlds in his work, at times with direct reference to his musical projects.
