hack pieces #4: Werner Berges. Prints from the 1960s and 1970s

Since the 1960s, certain motifs from the world of journals and glossy magazines have shaped the pictorial world of Werner Berges, although from the outset he has concentrated attention on the theme of women in his paintings, drawings, sculptures and prints. Picture of well-known actresses or photo models serve as the starting point for intense dealings with form, colour and material. Liberated from their role as advertising vehicles or glamour icons, the female figures undergo a graphic abstraction that dissolve the body into its basic forms, tying it to the plane. Characteristic aspects of Werner Berges' works are the luminous colours, the often-used dot matrix as well as the connections to the world of fashion and advertising.
